Festival Special Kozhukattai Recipe | Sweet Modak Recipe


Ingredients :

Raw Rice Flour/ Pachai Arisi Maavu – 2 cups

Grated Coconut/ Thuruviya Thengai – 1 cup

Jaggery Powder (Coarse)/ Vellam – 1 cup

Cardamom/ Elaichi/ Yelakkai

Oil/ Yennai

Method :

1. Make a smooth dough with the flour by adding water

2.  Take a vessel and boil water. Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of oil and salt to the boiling water

3. Now add the rice flour dough to the boiling water and stir continuously so that it turns into a dough with smooth and shinning consistency

4. Take another vessel, boil water (enough to dissolve jaggery),  add jaggery powder, mix well and make jaggery syrup (vella paagu)

5. Add grated coconut to the boiling syrup and stir continuously till it turns to a dry consistency

6.  Also add cardamom powder to the above coconut jaggery mixture (pooranam/ stuffing)

7. After the stuffing gets ready make cup shaped outer layer (make small balls with the dough and flatten it from the center of the ball with hand by adding little oil) using the rice flour dough which is previously prepared

8. Now add the sweet stuffing to each cups made and close/ seal it by gathering all the edges of the cup to make it into a cone shape (modak)

9. Once the stuffing process of the kozhukattai is ready steam cook them in idli vessel by putting wet cloth on each idli trays, and the recipe is ready

Cardamom in hindi is called Elaichi and in tamil is called Yelakkai

Oil in tamil is called Yennai

Jaggery syrup in tamil is called Vella Paagu
