Easy and Tasty Vazhaipoo Poriyal Recipe


Important Tip while handling a banana blossom is you have to either wear a gloves or rub some oil on your hands to avoid the coloration/ stains you get on your hands

Ingredients :

1. Banana Blossoms / Vazhaipoo – 1 (remove each petal and remove the florets inside them)

* also remove the two parts from each florets shown below

2. Small Onion / Pearl Onions / Chinna Vengayam – 7/8

3. Garlic / Poondu – 3/4 cloves

4. Curry Leaves / Karuvepillai – 7/8

5. Grated Coconut / Thuruviya Thengai – 1 cup

6. Dried Red Chili’s / Kaaintha Milagai  – 5

7. Urad Dal / Ulundu  – 2 Tbs

8. Turmeric Powder –

9. Coriander Powder

10. Asafetida/ Asafoetida / Perungaya Podi

11. Cumin Seeds / Seerakam

12. Mustard / Kaduku

Method :

1. Soak the banana blossom’s florets (chop them) in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes, this will avoid blackening of the florets

2. Now take a pan, add oil and heat it, add cumin’s and mustard, let it splutter

3. Then add, all the ingredients one by one like asafetida, curry leaves, turmeric powder, dried red chili’s, urad dal, garlic cloves, small onions, shredded coconut, coriander powder, mix and saute them well until all the ingredients get well fried

4. Also add the florets (drain the buttermilk) and saute it well, add salt, cook for 4 – 5 minutes / until all the ingredients get cooked, garnish with coriander leaves and the recipe is ready
