Paruppu Urundai Mor(More) Kuzhambu Recipe

Ingredients :

  1. Split Red Gram / Thoor Dal / Thuvaram Paruppu – 1/2 cup
  2. Roasted Chana Dal / Pottukadalai – 1 Tbs
  3. Curd / Thayir – 1 cup
  4. Green Chili / Pachai Milagai – 2 or 3
  5. Asafetida / Perungaya thool
  6. Fennel Seeds / Saunf / Sombu
  7. Cumin Seeds / Seerakam
  8. Turmeric Powder / Manjal Thool – 1 Ts
  9. Cumin Powder / Seerakam Podi – 1 Ts (optional)
  10. Salt

For Tempering :
1. Dried Red Chili / Kaaintha Milagai – 3 or 4
2. Curry Leaves / Karuveppilai – few
3. Fenugreek / Venthayam
4. Mustard Seeds / Kaduku


Method :

  1. Soak the thoor dal and roasted chana dal for atleast 10-20 minutes
  2. Add the soaked dal’s, green chili, fennel seeds, asafetida to a blender and grind it to a thick paste
  3. Transfer it to a mixing bowl and add salt and cumin seeds, mix it well, add them in idli plates and steam cook them
  4. After steam cooking them take one paruppu urundai from the idli plate and mix it to the curd also add some water and make a nice mixture
  5. Take a pan and heat it, add this paruppu urundai curd mixture, then add turmeric powder and salt mix it well, let it cook, then add the remaining paruppu urundai’s to the curry, mix it well, also add cumin powder, mix well, let it cook, then switch off the flame and start tempering process by adding ingredients given under to temper, add it to the curry / kuzhambu, mix it well, and the recipe is ready
