Chettinad Special Masala Seeyam(Cheeyam) Recipe


Ingredients :

  1. Black Gram / Urad Dal / Ulundu – 1 cup
  2. Raw rice / Pacha Arisi – 1 cup
  3. Small Onion / Chinna Vengayam – 5 chopped
  4. Green Chili / Pachai Milagai – 2 or 3 chopped
  5. Ginger / Inji – chopped
  6. Grated Coconut / Thuruviya Thengai – 1 small cube
  7. Curry Leaves / Karuveppilai – few chopped
  8. Mustard Seeds / Kaduku
  9. ┬áSplit Black Gram / Urad Dal / Ulundu – 1 Tbs
  10. Salt
  11. Oil / Yennai

 

Method :

  1. Soak 1 cup of urad dal and 1 cup of raw rice separately for at least 2 to 3 hours, grind it to a nice thick consistency, transfer it to mixing bowl
  2. Take a pan, add oil and heat it, add mustard and urad dal, let it splutter then add all other ingredients like ginger, green chili, curry leaves, small onion, saute them until the onions turn slightly brown in color, then add shredded coconut, saute it and switch off the flame, add it to the batter along with salt, mix well
  3. Add oil in a pan to deep fry the seeyam ‘s and heat it, take small amounts of the batter and drop them in the oil and fry them until they turn golden brown in color, the recipe is ready
