Sundakkai (Turkey Berry inTamarind Curry) Kara Kuzhambu Recipe


Ingredients :
(To saute and grind to paste)

1. Pepper Cons / Milagu – 1-2 Ts

2. Turmeric Powder / Manjal Thool – 1 Ts

3. Fenugreek Seeds / Venthayam – few

4. Fennel Seeds / Sombu – 1-2 Ts

5. Coriander Seeds / Dhania – 2 Ts

6. Cumin Seeds / Seerakam – 1 Ts

7. Dried Red Chili / Kaaintha Milagai – 3 or 4

8. Shredded Coconut / Thuruviya Thengai – 1 small cube

*Adding Coconut helps to thicken the curry quickly or to get required curry consistency

Other Ingredients :

  1. Dried Turkey Berry / Sundakkai – 1/2 cup
  • Fry them and keep them separately to add at the end of the curry process

2. Onion / Vengayam – 1 big chopped

3. Tomato / Thakkali – 1 big chopped

4. Vatha Kuzhambu Masala Powder / Kara Kuzhambu Masala Powder- 2 Ts

5. Sesame Oil

6. Salt

For Tempering :

1. Mustard Seeds / Kaduku

2. Fennel Seeds / Sombu

3. Fenugreek Seeds / Venthayam

4. Curry Leaves / Karuveppilai

 

Method :

  1. Take a pan add oil and heat it add all the ingredients under to saute and grind to fine paste, saute them and grind to fine paste
  2. Fry the sundakkai and set it aside
  3. Take a pan add oil and heat it, the add the ingredients under to temper, once they splutter, add onion, tomato, saute well, add salt and vatha kuzhambu masala powder, mix well
  4. Add the grinded paste, mix well, add sufficient amount of water, mix and let the curry cook, Then add the tamarind pulp water, mix well and let the curry cook
  5. Once the curry gets cooked well add the fried turkey berry, mix well, switch off the flame garnish with coriander leaves, the recipe is ready
