Ingredients :Tamil Nadu Special Vazhakkai Poriyal, Plantain Stir Fry

1. Raw Banana / Plantain / Vazhakkai – 2 peeled and
cut to square size pieces
2. Small Onion / Chinna Vengayam – 4 chopped
3. Garlic Pods / Poondu – 8 or 10
4. Curry Leaves / Karuveppilai
5. Dried Red Chili / Kaaintha Milagai – 2
6. Shredded Coconut / Thuruviya Thengai – 1 cup
7. Cumin and Mustard Seeds / Seerakam and Kaduku
8. Turmeric Powder / Manjal Thool – 1 Ts
9. Garam Masala Powder – a pinch (optional)
10. Chana Dal and Urad Dal / Kadalai Paruppu and Ulundu
11. Salt and Oil

Method : For Making Vazhakkai Poriyal / Plantain Stir Fry

  1. Take a pan add oil and heat it, add the spluttering ingredients one by one like mustard, let it splutter then add cumin seeds let it also splutter
  2. Add urad dal and chana dal saute them well too
  3. Then add the garlic pods too, and saute them well, add cut small onions, saute them, also add curry leaves and dried red chili’s
  4. Once the onion turn golden brown in color add the plantain pieces, mix well
  5. Add the dry powder ingredients like turmeric powder, garam masala powder and salt, mix well, also add sufficient amount of water, mix well cover the vessel with the lid, and let it cook for 5 minutes or till the plantain pieces gets soft and cooked well
  6. Add the shredded coconut, mix well and switch off the flame, the tamil nadu special Vazhakkai Poriyal / Plantain Stir Fry is now ready
