Spicy Potato Kurma

Spicy Potato Kurma is a very complementing side dish for any biryani or pulao or basmati rice dish, they also go well as a side dish with chapati / roti items, they have the right amount of spices which gives the exact taste required for the side dish along with the coconut and cashews added they also give the required rich texture for the kurma


 

Ingredients For Making Spicy Potato Kurma :

 

Ingredients To Grind To Paste :

1. Ginger / Inji
2. Garlic / Poondu – 5 cloves
3. Fennel Seeds / Sombu – 1/2 Ts
4. Cashew Nuts – 6
5. Coconut – 1 small cube
(Soak Cashew nuts and fennel seeds together in water for 5 to 10 minutes before grinding)

Ingredients :

1. Potato / Urulai Kizhangu – 4 chopped
2. Onion / Vengayam – 1 cup thinly cut
3. Green Chili / Pachai Milagai – 2 thinly slices

4. Salt

5. Oil

Dry Powder Ingredients :

1. Turmeric Powder / Manjal Thool – 1/2 Ts
2. Coriander Powder / Dhania Thool – 1/2 Ts
3. Red Chili Powder / Milagai Thool – 1 Ts
4. Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 Ts

Whole Spices :

Cumin Seeds/ Seerakam, Bay Leaves/ Brinji Ilai, Cinnamon Stick/ Pattai, Cloves/ Krambu

 

 

Method For Making Spicy Potato Kurma :

  1. Grind all the ingredients mentioned under to grind and set aside
  2. Take a pan add oil and heat it, add all the whole spice ingredients and let them splutter
  3. Then add potato’s and saute them well, after sauteing them for 2 to3 minutes close with a lid and let the potato’s cook half way through
  4. Now add onions and green chili’s, saute them, Add dry powder spices ingredients, mix well
  5. After mixing them well, add the grinded paste and salt, mix well, if required add sufficient amount of water, close the lid and let the curry cook, garnish with coriander leaves, switch off the flame, serve with any roti or basmati rice items, the spicy potato kurma is ready
