1. Blood Oranges or Sanguinello its an name derived from Italian, also called as Sanguinelli in U.S.

2. There are two more varieties like Moro and Tarocco

3. Blood oranges red pigment contains anthocyanin which is an antioxidant

4. There red pigments starts accumulating at their vesicles near the edges of their segments, also near blossom end of

the fruit, this process continues even after harvest

5. They contain greater amounts of antioxidants than the regular oranges, but amount of Vitamin C is as same as found

in regular oranges

6. When it comes to taste they are like much similar to regular oranges (could say sweet blood orange taste – like

combination of orange and raspberry taste), some can be tart too. Looks wise they look like regular oranges on

outside, same skin texture and everything except for the pulp they are red in color

7. Can sometimes have little bit of red streaks on their outer skin
