Bisibelebath Recipe | (Sambar Sadam)

Bisibelebath is a karnataka special recipe which is made with toor dal, rice, vegetables and bisibelebath masala which is the key ingredient to this rice





Ingredients :

Ingredients Required For Making Bisibelebath :

1. Rice / Arisi – 2 cups, and Toor Dal / Red Gram – 1/2 cup
2. Onion / Vengayam – 1 cup chopped
3. Green Chili / Pachai Milagai – 2 chopped
4. Vegetables – like carrots, french beans, potato, green peas, drumsticks, etc.,
5. Tamarind Extract / Puzhi Karaisal – 1/4 cup
6. Turmeric Powder / Manjal Thool – 1/2 Ts
7. Sambar Powder – 1 Tbs

Ingredients Required For Tempering :

1. Cashew Nuts / Munthiri Paruppu – 4 or 5
2. Mustard / Kaduku
3. Urad Dal / Black Gram Dal
4. Curry Leaves / Karuveppilai – few

Ingredients Required For Making Bisibelebath Masala :

1. Chana Dal / Split Bengal Gram – 2 Ts
2. Urad Dal / Black Gram – 2 Ts
3. Cumin Seeds / Seerakam
4. Fennel Seeds / Sombu
5. Coriander Seeds / Dhania
6. Pepper Cons / Milagu
7. Cinnamon / Pattai
8. Cloves / Krambu
9. Star Anise
10. Asafetida / Perungayappodi
11. Dried Red Chili / Kaaintha Milagai
12. Grated Coconut / Thuruviya Thengai – 1/2 cup





Method :

Method For Making Bisibelebath :

  1. Cook rice and toor dal and set it aside
  2. Take a pan add oil and heat it, add the ingredients mentioned under bisibelebath masala paste, saute them well, and once the ingredients cool off add them to a mixer grinder / blender and grind it to a fine paste, set it aside
  3. Now take another pan, add oil and heat it, add onions and green chili mix and saute them well, once they are sauted add the vegetables, (you can also add other vegetables like small onions, drumsticks etc.,), mix and saute them, also add turmeric powder, sambar powder, salt, mix well, Then add the tamarind extract, mix well
  4. After mixing all the ingredients well add grinded paste, mix well, also add sufficient amount of water(bisibelebath always has a semi liquidy consistency so add water accordingly), place a lid and let all the vegetables cook well
  5. Once they are cooked add rice and toor dal, mix well, Take a small pan, add ghee and add all the ingredients under to temper, once they splutter, add them to the rice and mix well, the Bisibelebath is now ready to serve with fryums, or pickles
