South Indian Special Medu Vadai Recipe


Medu Vadai is a type of vada recipe made with urad dal and other ingredients, with a crispy texture on top, goes good with sambar or chutney, is a goon evening snack item too

Ingredients :

Ingredients Required For Making Medu Vadai :

1. Black Gram / Urad Dal / Ulundu – 1 and 1/2 cup – (soaked for at least 2 hrs)
2. Onion / Vengayam – 1 big chopped
3. Green Chili / Pachai Milagai – 2 chopped
4. Curry Leaves / Karuveppilai – few
5. Ginger / Inji – small piece – optional
6. Salt
7. Asafetida / Hing
8. Oil – for frying

Method :

Method For Making Medu Vadai : 

  1. Soak the urad dal for at least two hours, then add it to a mixer grinder along with salt, and asafetida, (ginger piece – optional), grind it to a fine paste. then also add the green chili and onion, grind it again, transfer it to a bowl
  2. Also add curry leaves to the batter and mix it well, add little amount of water to the mixer grinder (which has some of the batter in it, mix well) and take this water in a separate bowl, we will use this water to dip our hands while making the vada shape
  3. Meanwhile take a kadai or vessel, add oil for frying, heat it, then make vada shapes in your hand and make a hole in the middle too, so that the vada’s will cook evenly, drop them slowly in oil, and turn them on both sides, fry them until they turn golden brown in color, the Medu Vadai is ready to eat hot with chutney or sambar
