Ingredients :

Ingredients Required For Making White Peas (Vatana White) Masala Curry :

1. White Peas (Vatana White) / Vellai Pattani – 1 cup – soaked overnight
2. Potato / Urulai Kizhangu – small ones – 10 – (if they are big ones take 2)
3. Asafetida / Hing
4. Onion / Vengayam – 1 big – chopped
5. Tomato / Thakkali – 2 chopped
6. Green Chili / Pachai Milagai – 2 chopped
7. Ginger and Garlic / Inji and Poondu – small piece of ginger and 5 cloves of garlic

Spluttering Ingredients / Ingredients Required For Spluttering :

Cumin Seeds / Seerakam, Cinnamon Sticks / Pattai – 2, Cloves / Krambu – 4, Bay Leaves / Brinji Ilai – 2

Masala Powders Required Are :

1. Turmeric Powder / Manjal Thool – 1/2 Ts
2. Coriander Powder / Dhania Thool – 1 Ts
3. Red Chili Powder / Milagai Thool – 1 Ts
4. Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 Ts
5. Chana Masala Powder – 1 Ts, 6. Salt, 7. OIl & Butter

Method :

Method For Preparing White Peas (Vatana White) Masala Curry :

  1. Pressure cook white peas and potato, also add pinch of asafetida, turmeric powder and chana masala powder

     2. Take a mixer grinder or blender, add onion, tomato, ginger, garlic, green chili, grind it to a fine past

     3. Take a pan, add oil and heat it, add the ingredients mentioned under to splutter and let it splutter, also add the masala powder ingredients and quickly saute them without burning the spices, then add the grinded paste, mix well, add salt and sufficient amount of water and let the curry cook

    4. Once you start seeing small bubbles forming on top of the curry/ surface of the curry, add the previously pressure cooked white peas and potato, mix well, let it cook for 3 to 4 minutes, also add a small piece of butter, kasoori methi and cilantro / coriander leaves, mix well, switch off the flame, the White Peas (Vatana White) Masala Curry is ready
