Sakkarai (Chakkarai) Pongal is a sweet recipe made with rice, moong dal and jaggery, its easy and a yummy sweet recipe, it’s mainly made during the pongal festival

Ingredients Required For Making Sakkarai (Chakkarai) Pongal :
1. Rice / Arisi – 1 cup
2. Moong Dal / Payatham or Pasi Paruppu – 1/4 cup
3. Jaggery / Vellam – 1 cup
4. Cardamom / Elaichi / Yellakai – 6
5. Cashew Nuts / Munthiri Paruppu – 10
6. Raisins / Dry Grapes / Kissmiss – 10
7. Ghee / Nei
Method :
Method For Preparing Sakkarai (Chakkarai) Pongal :
- Take a vessel, add rice and moong dal, two cups of water, mix well, switch on the flame, cook the rice and moong dal together, by mixing them or stirring them in between
- Meanwhile take another pan, add jaggery and sufficient amount of water to make the jaggery water / syrup/ vella paaghu, add it to the cooked dal and rice mixture, mix it well
- Now take a kadai / a pan, add ghee and heat it, add cardamom, cashew nuts, raisins, fry them well, and add it to the pongal, mix well, the Sakkarai (Chakkarai) Pongal is ready
