Masal Vadai Recipe | Masala Vada | Paruppu Vadai Recipe

Masal Vadai is a popular south indian vadai recipe for snack time along with coffee or tea, they are crispy, little spicy and have yummy flavors from onion, dal and fennel seeds added to it, 




Ingredients :


Ingredients For Making Masal Vadai :

1. Split Bengal Gram / Chana Dal / Kadalai Paruppu – 1 cup soaked previously for 3 to 4 hours
2. Onion / Vengayam – 1 cup chopped
3. Curry Leaves / Karuveppilai , Coriander Leaves / Kothamalli Ilai , Mint Leaves / Pudina Ilai – few each
4. Ginger and Garlic / Inji and Poondu – small piece of ginger chopped and 5 cloves of garlic
5. Green Chili / Pachai Milagai – 2 chopped
6. Dried Red Chili / Kaaintha Milagai – 1 or 2
7. Fennel Seeds / Sombu – 1/4 Ts
8. Rice Flour / Arisi Maavu – 1 Tbs
9. Salt and Oil for frying

Method :

Method For Making Masal Vadai :

  1. Soak the chana dal for atleast 3 to 4 hours then drain the water completely, in a mixer grinder add fennel seeds, green chili’s, red chili’s, ginger, garlic, grind them to a coarse paste (in this whole vada process we are going to grind all the ingredients to a coarse consistency only do not grind them to a fine paste, dont add any water for grinding)
  2. After grinding coarsely the previously mentioned ingredients now also add chana dal and salt, grind once again coarsely even if you see some ungrinded chana dal its fine
  3. Transfer the contents to a mixing bowl and add onion, curry leaves, coriander leaves, mint leaves, rice flour, mix well
  4. Meanwhile take a kadai add oil for deep frying the vada’s and heat it, take small lemon size balls out of the vada mixture and flatten them with your fingers gently and shape them as much as you can to a round shape, put them in oil and deep
  5. Fry them until they turn golden brown in color, put them on a kitchen tissue towel so that the excess oil can be absorbed, the Masal Vadai is now ready
