Achari Chana Pulao Recipe | Healthy Kondakadalai Pulao


Achari Chana Pulao is a variety of pulao made with Chickpea or Chana or Kondakadalai, the word achar means pickle, this pulao has the flavors of the pickle and also chana which is very healthy ingredient

Achari Chana Pulao

 

Ingredients :

  • Chana / Kondakadalai / Chick Peas – 1 cup soaked for 5 hours 
  • For Pressure Cooking Chana / Kondakadalai / Chick Pea Add pinch of asafetida, chana masala powder, and few drops of oil

Ingredients Required For Making Achari Chana Pulao :

 

Spluttering Ingredients :

1. Bay Leaves / Brinji Ilai, Cinnamon Stick / Pattai, Cloves / Krambu
2. Dried Red Chili / Kaaintha Milagai – 3
4. Fenugreek Seeds / Venthayam – 5
5. Fennel Seeds / Sombu – 1/4 Ts
6. Cumin Seeds and Mustard / Seerakam and Kaduku – 1/2 Ts each
7. Cashew Nuts / Munthiri Paruppu – 4
8. Achar Masala Powder – 1/2 Ts
9. Sun Dried Onion / Thalippu Vengaya Vathal / Onion Vathal – 1 Tbs
10. Asafetida – a pinch

Other Ingredients Required Are :

Basmati Rice / Brinji Rice / Long Grain Rice – 2 cups soaked previously for at least 1 hr
1. Ginger And Garlic Paste / Inji and Poondu Vizhuthu – 1 Tbs
2. Garam Masala Powder – 1/4 Ts
3. Red Chili Powder / Milagai Thool – 2 Ts
4. Turmeric Powder / Manjal Thool – 1/4 Ts
5. Green Peas / Pachai Pattani – 1/2 cup
6. Onion / Vengayam – 1 big chopped
7. Green Chili / Pachai Milagai – 1 chopped
8. Yogurt and Pickle Mixture / Thayir and Mangai Oorugai – take a cup of thick yogurt and one spoon full of mango pickle and mix it
9. Salt and Oil

 

Achari Chana Pulao

Method :

 

Method For Making Achari Chana Pulao :

  1. Take a pressure cooker, add oil and heat it, then add all the spluttering ingredients (mentioned under the spluttering ingredients), let them splutter, then add ginger and garlic paste, saute it well until the raw flavors of the ginger and garlic paste goes away
  2. Then add onion and green chili, saute them well, after sauteing them well add green peas, mix and saute it, also add the previously cooked chana
  3. Add masala powder ingredients like garam masala powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, mix well, also add salt
  4. Now add the yogurt and pickle mixture, mix well, add the soaked rice, sufficient amount of water, sprinkle some coriander leaves, close the lid of the cooker and cook the pulao (since i’m using electric cooker keeping the cooking time to 10 minutes, it may vary according to your electric cooker you use or number of whistle sounds for regular cooker may vary)
  5. Once done open the lid and fluff up the rice carefully without breaking the grains, the Achari Chana Pulao is ready
